The Club Championships, won in the past by two players who have become the number 1 ranked players in the world in Lee Beachill and James Willstrop, have reached the quarter final stage and the line-up is : Tom Bamford v Sam Wileman; Pranay Jain v Lewis Doughty; Taminder Gata-Aura v Elliot Ridge and Adam Taylor v Alex Hodgetts, four intriguing matches with the outcomes hard to predict. Three players have represented England at junior level and all eight, save for Jain, who lives in Mumbai, have played for Yorkshire at senior level.
The Ladies title will be defended by Katie Smith, also an England Junior International, and her main opposition will come from Julie Field and Andrea Santamaria, both of whom have achieved a great deal at senior level.
Asia Harris 11, reached the final of the Sutton Coldfield Under15's; Amy Royle the final of the Under 15's at Fairways Lodge Manchester, whilst 10 year old Joe Royle finished third Under 13 in Manchester, all three playing out of their age groups and performing with much credit.
Ben Sockett, making his first appearance for England at Under 15 level in the absence of no. 1 Jared Carter, led England to success in the Home Internationals at Lillieshall. He will, with Elliot Ridge (Under17) and Sam Todd (Under 15) go to Belgium to represent England in the European Team Championships in Belgium in ten days time, Todd's participation is in some doubt due to a knee problem. James Willstrop, too, is in doubt for the senior version in Warsaw next week because of his continuing virus troubles.
Next overseas visitor to Pontefract for training purposes will be Misaki Kobayashi, the Japanese number 1 woman player, who will spend June and July at the club.
