The Junior Inter County finals were held at Nottingham last weekend and of the 30 players involved for Yorkshire 16 were from Pontefract illustrative of the strength of Pontefract Juniors,boys and girls.  Successful were the Girls Under 17, Boys Under 15 and Girls Under 15, in each of which teams Pontefrcat supplied four of the five players Under 17 Girls Ellen Cooper, Emma Campion, Poppie Jaram and Charlotte Jagger. Under 15 Boys Sam Todd, Ben Sockett, Harry Anderson and Jordan Stewart. Under 15 Girls Amber Copley, Laura Longfield, Grace and Polly Clarke. Pontefract's Yorkshire League Premier 2nd team, reinforced by two top Malaysian Juniors, Eain Yow and Ong Sai Hong, deputising forthe injured Elliot Ridge and  Sam Todd, in New York for the Tournament of Champions, beat Heaton 3-2, both Malaysians winning and top British Junior Patrick Rooney completing the win.   Yow, the best 17 year old in the World, won a high class match with the capable Julian Tomlinson,11-5 in the fifth. The Malaysian pair will play their second match against Chapel Allerton this week. The two outstanding Malaysian girls, Andrea Lee and Zoe Foo made their debuts for Pontefract for Pontefract's 4th team against Rothwell, the team was led by Malaysian Coach Andrew Cross and wins by him, Low and Ben Sockett gave Pontefrcat a 3-2 win in front of a large and appreciative Rothwell crowd. Pontefract play Birmingham next Tuesday in the National League and will have Indiian No.1 Saurav Ghosal available as well as Eain Yow and Patick Rooney. James Willstrop will lead the team prior to heading  off to Sweden for the Swedish Open in Linkoping, a tournament which is immediately followed by the British Closed in Manchester, which may well see a renewal of the long running rivalry of Willstrop and Nick Matthew.
